Counter Strike: Global Offensive Review

Counter Strike: Global Offensive

As many of you know, Counter Strike: Global Offensive (CS:GO) is a very popular PC game that many gamers play. It is a First Person Shooter, and is team based. I've recently played hours on end because of how fun and addicting it is, and now I'm going to share my experiences with you.

Game Play

CS:GO is situated in a wide selection of maps ready to be played. Certain maps have different game modes. These game modes can drastically change the experience of the game. So far there are only two casual game modes. Bomb Defuse and Hostage Rescue.

Game Mode 1: Bomb Defuse

An example of Defusing the Bomb
The Bomb Defuse game mode is the more popular of the two. In Bomb Defuse, you play as either the Counter Terrorists, or the Terrorists. The Terrorists have one bomb carrier. The bomb carrier is supposed to plant the bomb at the bombsite. The bombsite is different on each map, and there are always two sites. If you are playing as a Terrorist, you can win the match by either planting the bomb and blowing up the bomb site, or you can eliminate the entire enemy team. Just don't forget, the bomb takes time to blow up so you need to make sure the Counter Terrorists don't defuse it. Counter Terrorists on the other hand, need to protect the bomb sites. In order to win, the CTs have to either eliminate the entire enemy team, kill the bomb carrier and guard the bomb until time runs out, or defuse the planted bomb.

Game Mode 2: Hostage Rescue

Rescuing a Hostage
The Hostage Rescue game mode is the second game mode in CS:GO. It is less popular of the two and it includes the same teams as Bomb Defuse. In this game mode however, you either defend the hostages, or rescue them. The CTs rescue hostages, while the Terrorists defend. In order to win as a Terrorist, you have to kill all of the CTs, or you defend the hostages until time runs out. In order to win as a CT, you have to kill all of the Terrorists, or rescue at least 1 hostage.

There are also other game modes like "Arms Race" and "Demolition" but those will be covered in a different post. They are considered Minigames.

Campaigns

In CS:GO, there are many campaigns to play from. By purchasing a campaign, you get an up-gradable campaign coin, which upgrades through missions, and a cool looking digital mission book. Each mission puts you in a multi-player server where you have to complete the requirements of the mission. If you hit ESC on you keyboard, it should tell you the requirements of the mission.

Operations:
  • Operation PayBack
  • Operation Phoenix
  • Operation Breakout
  • Operation Vanguard

Multiplayer/Competitive

In CS:GO you can join a random casual server and play, or you can join a competitive game. Competitive games can last up to 90 minutes, and require you to stay for the entire game. If you leave early, there will be a penalty, which results in cooldowns between competitions. In competitive, there are only 5 people per team, and there are 30 rounds. If you win 16, you secure a win. In competitive, the more matches you win, the higher up the leaderboard you climb. If you continue to do well in matches, you rank up. The ranks are as follows, from lowest to highest:

(Lowest in the Top Left, Highest in the Bottom Right)
I'm a Silver I right now
Conclusion

Overall, CS:GO is a great game. It has all the features a normal FPS game would have, and it is really about controlling your shooting and strategy. If I would rate this game, I would give it a 10 out of 10. CS:GO has a great deal of customization with skins, and a very competitive feel to it. I would definitely recommend this game to anyone who is interested in PC Gaming and is looking for a great FPS game.
